Existing Conditions in 2006 in the Eastern Expansion Area

In addition to the recently acquired parcels, the eastern expansion area encompasses over 42 acres of land for future redevelopment opportunities. The plan evaluates the connectivity, adjacencies, and other physical factors such as view corridors, the Schuylkill River floodplain, and rail and roadway services that traverse the land.

University City is served by a number of transit lines and regional rail services. 30th Street station, a five minute walk north of the Walnut Street gateway, provides a nexus of subway, regional rail and Amtrak connections. The University City Regional Rail station connects the eastern expansion area with 30th Street Station and with the western suburbs and the Philadelphia International Airport.
